I am reminded of Al Franken’s joke about Cruz being the most hated Senator: “I like Ted Cruz more than any other Senator. And I hate Ted Cruz.”

I'm so glad that McConnell blinked, and even though there are feral republicans in his midst, that he is weak. Do you think this signals some kind of degradation of the party as a whole? I guess one could say that about Dems, but what I think is happening is what SHOULD be happening, where people with different ideas about how things should be done are debating (mostly) in good faith. Working it out. But this rabid anti-democracy in the GOP is new and yet old at the same time. I hate to use the pundit approach, but are we seeing the end of the GOP?

I'm sure Cruz must be very happy to have Manchin and Sinema in competition with him for the Senator with the least friends.

Dan, do you think McConnell's promise of intransigence come December will push the issue of recasting the filibuster such that Manchin and Sinema are likely to say yes to that? Seems to me that danger (for the GOP) was one reason why McConnell caved when he did.
