Couldn't agree with you more, Dan. There's a way to message about Republican incompetence without being mean and schadenfreude-ish or betraying Joe's sober empathy. A good example: here in London precious time was lost when Boris got sick -- not a darn thing happened while he was in the hospital, everyone being all proper and polite when the truth is Johnson bungled the early response massively and continues to do so. For the Dems, there are many simple, clear lines to be drawn: Trump's early secrecy, denial patterns, PPE & mask incompetence, disenfranchising Fauci, Republican's blind loyalty throughout, making science political and divisive -- all of them smug in their healthcare and access to testing while Americans wait for a bill to pass or a Supreme Court to kick them off the healthcare rolls. The list is endless. They are shameless. (and that video is gross).

Agreed on all this, especially given the fact that Trump and his team have so heavily tried to project an image of strength over the past 48 hours. They aren't saying that this is an enfeebled President who deserves our sympathy. They are saying it's business as usual. So Biden should treat it as such.

When Trump starts bragging about the treatments to “beat back the plague” it’s good to note, a five day treatment of Remdisivir is $3,100 and the monoclonal cocktail treatment he also received is not only unavailable yet, it’s very expensive and will be very limited in availability. Trump is the only person ever to have received both drugs! I’m sure he will spin these treatments as available to everyone with Covid. Further, I’m suspicious about the timeframe- I have a sneaky feeling his doctor was correct when he read from his press-statement Saturday. I think he was the super spreader- just criminal.

Great article Dan! Especially down here in FL. I live in Tampa which is in Hillsborough County, there are more registered Democrats here but yesterday I saw two big impromptu trump rallies from the side of the road no one was wearing masks. I volunteer with Equality Florida, working hard to get out the vote. I will be a poll worker in avery busy area. Thankfully 🙏🏾 we do not have an open carry state or I would be very nervous. Hoping that the SOE will have extra security at the polling sites. EVERYONE needs to vote early or drop your mail in ballot off at the early polling sites.

It's fair to call out every elected official who was covid-positive or exposed to covid for knowingly putting others at risk (and a good way to point out their efforts to kill the ACA)

I also think it's fair to ask Amy Barrett at her hearing why she risked exposing her children to CV19 by bringing them to an event full of maskless adults. You don't have to know that anyone there was CV19-positive to know it was dangerous. It know anything invoking family and kids is potentially dangerous. But it isn't a judgement abut her kids, it's about her. Poor decision-making? Afraid of Trump? Curious if you/others think that's a third-rail.

Biden should soak up all this Trump-less time and talk about his economic plan

Absolutely, Dan. As an outside observer, it seems almost uniquely American to elevate and almost ‘deify’ the position of president, and to disregard the character of the person in that role, especially when these sorts of crises arise. Trump is entirely responsible for his own infection, and it’s reflective of his failure to prevent the spread of it throughout the country. Wish him recovery, sure. But hold him entirely accountable for everything.

The gaslighting and pearl-clutching over lack of empathy on our side of the aisle just has me rolling my eyes, honestly. The Venn diagram of the pearl-clutchers crying for empathy right now and the people who think "black men getting shot by cops is just the consequences of their actions" is a perfect circle, and they can't even see the irony in it.

Dan, thoughts about Cal Cunningham's campaign? I know you are driving the PSA to help him.

Dan - do you think Biden not running negative ads was a better campaign message than any negative ads? This is 100% anecdotal but according to Facebook my relatives in Michigan thought it was admirable.

Terrified for Biden until next Sunday when he should be all clear; the timeline of when 45 knew and when he knew it makes one really think about this: did he suspect on Tuesday night when he looked like s*it (even worse than usual) and THAT is why he was "TOO LATE" to take the covid test before the debate...Remember, this is the guy who said he could shoot someone, etc.

When do you think the Biden team will begin airing negative ads again? I think it makes sense post VP debate, certainly there will be no love lost there and we may be closer to ‘business as usual’ at that point?
