"Unlike earlier in the race, DeSantis is no longer making news on his terms. To the extent he gets talked about, it’s now on Trump’s terms. That shift has undoubtedly stalled DeSantis's momentum from last year."

This statement is key and should be guiding us (Democrats) on how best to respond to Trump. Don't do it on Trump's terms. Don't go on defense. Take the lead! Command the dialogue.

Ron DeSantis is the Ken Roy of GOP politics.

‘Empty brown shirt’ is perfection. DeSantis gets some national attention also in snippets about each stage of his battle with Disney, expanding’Don’t Say Gay’ to the 12th grade, book bans, etc. Extremism on all cultural fronts. All negatives, no positives and even the MAGA base may be getting jaded with one-note Ron, our southern fried jabroni.

Yes but...

Aren't the attacks - not the substance or the target, but the cortisol-producing aggression - isn't that a big part of what drives media attention and juices the base? DeSantis' biggest media attention is when he's attacking trans kids, black voters, immigrants, woke Disney, or the MAGA boogey man du jour. Trump's biggest attention is when he's attacking Bragg, DeSantis, the FBI, and his targeted MAGA boogey man du jour. How much and what kind of media would each be getting if they were talking about policy? So I get the main message here: it is not that Trump is landing blows and DeSantis isn't, it's that Trump is once again sucking all the oxygen out of the "news". But I still think the attacks - on anything - are a major part of why Trump is sucking all the oxygen out of the news. And that's important because if this continues, and I think it will, the collateral damage to everyone and every thing that is not authoritarian MAGA is likely to be quite severe.

Yes, and we should stop talking about T***. Stop giving him attention. If only the world had done that in 2015/16.

"The Proof is in the Polling" as a section-header is an awesome choice. Love it.

We are living in an attention economy now. How we use ours is going to matter, and this is a time when we can push media to NOT obsess over T-Rump. It's okay to say he's doing the same old ish he's been doing. But his followers - whew. Watched The Circus and those folks are not in touch with the rest of the world by any stretch. That MAGA media has really done a number.

In a match-up between Trump and DeSantis, the only sane option is "None of the above."
